Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the welfare of the deprived and backward classes is the priority of the central government. Modi, during his digital address at the ‘Krishnaguru Eknam Akhand Kirtan’ in Assam’s Barpeta district, also said that in order to empower women, special provisions have been made in the Union Budget 2023-24 for increasing the interest rates on savings of women .

Modi was carrying a white and green ‘gamosa’. He said that the demand for traditional hand towels has increased in the last eight years. Modi said, “Lakhs of women organized under Self Help Groups (SHGs) are weaving these. Behind every Gamosa is the hard work of the women of Assam. The kirtan which started on January 6 at Krishnaguru Sevashram will continue for a month.

PM Modi said, “Today we are giving priority to the development of the Northeast and Assam. Tourism plays a major role in the region’s economy. Proposed in the budget 2023, 50 tourist places across the country will be developed as full-fledged tourist destinations.

PM Modi said, “Ganga Vilas Cruise will soon reach Assam. Its passengers are experiencing the culture of India and learning about the destinations they are visiting. I am sure the beauty and culture of Assam will be known to the world through the passengers on this cruise. (with agency inputs)
