President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the successful operation to rescue 41 laborers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand for about 17 days, saying it was an emotional moment for all. Murmu said the nation salutes the resilience of workers and is grateful to them for building critical infrastructure despite great personal risk.

“I congratulate the teams and all the experts who worked with incredible patience and determination to complete one of the most difficult rescue operations in history,” he wrote on X. Immediately after pulling the workers out of the tunnel, Modi saluted the spirit of the people involved in the operation and said that their courage and determination had given the workers a new lease of life.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that this is very good news for the country and he salutes the patience of the employees, who have faced such a challenging situation for so long. Shah thanked all those people and agencies, who worked tirelessly to save the lives of the workers.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said he was “relieved and happy” that all the workers had been evacuated safely. He said, “It was a coordinated effort of several agencies, one of the most important rescue operations in recent years. Despite facing many challenges, various departments and agencies worked together.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that it is a matter of great relief and happiness for everyone that the workers have been safely taken out of the tunnel. He demanded from the government to provide immediate health benefits and adequate compensation to the workers. He demanded a safety audit of all the under-construction projects so that such situations do not arise again.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami thanked Modi for his continuous support during rescue operations. The condition of none of the workers is critical but all will be kept under medical supervision before being sent home. He said that evacuation started with the youngest workers. They are all healthy and have come out on their own. Dhami also said that Rs 1 lakh will be given to each rescued worker.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has described the safe evacuation of the workers as a victory for the unity of the people of India and praised all the people involved in the operation.

Kejriwal wrote on ‘X’, “The efforts of NDRF, Army and other agencies have paid off. I salute the efforts and hard work of many people involved in the operation, who worked day and night to make it a success. Worked hard.” He wrote, “I salute the patience and courage of all those workers who supported and encouraged each other in adverse conditions. This is a victory for the unity of the people of India.”
