Then increased the price of tomatoes
Tomato prices have been on the rise for more than a month as heavy rains disrupted supplies in key producing areas. In view of the situation, the central government has started selling tomatoes at a subsidized rate from July 14. Retail prices in the national capital started coming down recently, but have rebounded due to tight supply.
Statistics released by the Ministry
According to consumer affairs ministry data, the retail price of tomato touched Rs 203 per kg on Wednesday, while it was priced at Rs 259 per kg at Mother Dairy’s soft retail outlets.
What did the spokesperson of Mother Dairy say?
Mother Dairy’s spokesperson has said that the supply of tomatoes across the country has been affected for the last two months due to bad weather. The arrival of tomatoes in the Azadpur market has reduced significantly since the last two days. Short supply has led to a sharp rise in wholesale prices, which has also affected retail prices.
Its price is 170-220 rupees in Azadpur Mandi
In Azadpur, Asia’s largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market, the wholesale price of tomatoes on Wednesday was Rs 170-220 per kg depending on quality.
What did the president of Azadpur Mandi say?
Ashok Kaushik, president of Azadpur Tomato Association, says that the arrival of tomatoes has decreased for the last three days as heavy rains have damaged the crop in the producing areas. He said that on Wednesday, only 15 percent of tomatoes have been supplied in Azadpur Mandi.
Only six small trucks have been supplied from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. This also increased the prices. Kaushik said the supply situation is expected to improve in the next 10 days.
