Electricity: Due to increase in economic activities, electricity consumption in the country has increased by 9.5 percent to 1,503.65 billion units in the financial year 2022-23. According to government data, 1,374 billion units were consumed in 2021-22.
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) said on Sunday that the peak power consumption in a day was 207.23 GW in 2022-23, up from 200.53 GW last year. Analysts say that electricity consumption may remain high in the current financial year as well. The power ministry estimates that it could touch 229 GW per day this summer. The Ministry has already directed the coal based plants to operate at full capacity in this regard. The ministry has also asked domestic plants to import coal as per their requirement to meet any demand. The increase in electricity consumption clearly reflects the improvement in economic activities in the country, which has led to an increase in the demand for electricity.
Chemical exports have exceeded 30 billion dollars
The organic and inorganic chemical sector has crossed USD 30 billion in exports in the last financial year. Of this, $27 billion was exported from April 2022 to February 2023. Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel said, In this rapidly changing world, we face many challenges, yet we will overcome the pace of export growth. Chemexcil chairman SG Mokshi said at an event that the decision was taken to focus on exports to emerging markets.
Tata Steel is trying to get financial package
Tata Steel is in the process of securing a financial package from the UK government. Tata Steel CEO TV Narendran said, Tata Steel is still working on a request for a financial package from the government in the UK. The request has not yet been resolved.
