History of World Labor Day
World Labor Day is celebrated in honor of working people all over the world. Popularly known as May Day, this day has special significance. The celebration of this day was started in 1886 in Chicago. Due to the demand for fixed hours for work, the workers had launched a big movement and from this movement the tradition of celebrating Labor Day began. Thus the official celebration of International Workers’ Day began on May 1, 1886.

The workers formed a union together and decided that they would not work for more than 8 hours. For this demand, the workers started a strong movement in Chicago. In connection with this movement, the workers were still thinking of going on strike when a bomb exploded near their protest site in Chicago. After which chaos broke out there and the police opened fire. Many workers died due to firing. More than 100 workers were injured in this incident. After this, in 1889, in the International Socialist Conference, it was announced to celebrate the International Workers’ Day on May 1 in memory of the innocent workers killed in the shooting. It was also said that all the workers will have a holiday on this day.

Announcements after the Hemakert explosion
After Chicago’s Hemacrate explosion, there was a big announcement in favor of the workers. After the trial, all four of the miscreants who carried out the blasts were publicly hanged. After this, in 1889, in the second meeting of the International Labor Congress in Paris, a proposal was passed that May 1 should be celebrated as International Labor Day.

The celebration of this day in India was started by the Labor Kisan Party of Hindustan on May 1, 1923 in Madras. At that time it was celebrated as Madras Day but later it was renamed as May Day. Internationally, this day is celebrated in Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, South Africa, Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Venezuela, etc.
