New Delhi. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 15-day “Aadi Mahotsav” at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium here on February 16. Munda said that tribal artisans from across the country have been invited to demonstrate the method of making dishes from millets and sell millet related products.

Millets form an integral part of the diet of tribal communities and at the initiative of India the United Nations has declared 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’.

The tableau of the ministry which won the first prize will also be displayed during the Republic Day celebrations. TRIFED, an organization under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs organizes “Aadi Mahotsav” to provide direct market access to tribal artisans and women.

The festival will feature exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, handlooms, paintings, jewellery, cane and bamboo, pottery, food and natural products, gifts and assortments, tribal cuisine and more to showcase it through 200 stalls .

Around 500 tribal artisans and artists from 28 states and union territories will participate in the festival. These include tribal cooks from 19 states and union territories, for whom 20 ‘food stalls’ are being set up. (agency)
