Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to UAE. He met UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Many trade agreements were made in this meeting. In this meeting, agreements were signed for development of ports, power trading, interconnection of digital payment platforms like UPI, credit and debit.
But among all these agreements, one woman's name is in discussion. Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi. Reem is the UAE's Minister of International Cooperation, a role she has held since 2016 and has been an inspiration for women in the Gulf. Al Hashmi is also credited with the successful organization of the 2020 Dubai Expo. Al Hashmi was seen with India's Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra after the agreements reached between India and the UAE during Prime Minister Modi's visit. Al Hashmi has great influence in Dubai's foreign policy.
Who is Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashmi?
Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi is the head of the UAE Ministry of International Cooperation. He holds a BA in International Relations and French from Tufts University, USA, after which he completed his Master's degree from Harvard University and a PhD from Tsinghua University. Hashmi started his career as the Deputy Chief of the UAE Embassy in the US. After this in the year 2008 he was given the post of Minister in the Cabinet of UAE. Since 2016, he has been the Head of International Cooperation at the UAE Ministry.
2020 Dubai Expo
In 2011, Al Hashimi was given the responsibility of hosting World Expo 2020 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In June 2014, Al Hashimi was elected Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Committee and Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau Chief. Even after the Covid-19 pandemic, Al Hashimi successfully organized the Expo under his watch. About 24.1 million people participated in this expo which lasted for 6 months.
On the occasion of Dubai Day 2019, Hashimi joined Indian musician A.R. She was also seen talking to Rahman.
