He said that the floods that started from Mohali and Ropar have engulfed 14 districts including Patiala, Sangrur, Jalandhar, Harike Patan area but now the situation is improving in other places except Patiala, Sangrur, Jalandhar, Harike Patan. . He further said that a lot has been learned from these floods. To prevent this situation from happening in the future, the government will make a future strategy keeping in mind the current situation.
He further said that the water from Kaushalya Dam that came to Ghaggar in Mohali and the water from Sukhna Lake to Ghaggar through Sukhna Chow worsened the situation in Derabassi and Zirakpur areas, but due to the efforts made by the government and the administration, the situation is now becoming normal.
Earlier, during a meeting at Mohali, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain told the revenue minister who is also the in-charge minister of the district in detail about the damage, rescue and relief operations in the district during the floods. He said that work is being done on a war footing to restore essential services like electricity, water supply and damaged roads to normal conditions in the district. Out of 32 water supply schemes stopped due to rain, only one water supply scheme remains operational, which will be operated by this evening.
Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh on this occasion expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by the government and the administration to fight the floods in the district and with the rescue and relief work, but at the same time, on drawing up future plans to prevent water from coming into the residential towers in Kharar and Zirakpur. also emphasized
Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia said that a nodal officer should be appointed to strengthen coordination between GAMADA, Municipal Corporation and other departments with such essential services during such natural calamities so that people do not face problems due to different departments, on which DC Ashika Jain assured to form district level coordination committee.
Prabhjot Kaur, Chairperson of the District Planning Committee, asked on this occasion to make a mark to compensate for the damage caused by the floods.
The Minister of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Natural Disaster Management said on the occasion that essential services in the district where essential services have been affected should be revived with immediate effect.
He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is the first such Chief Minister, who himself is taking stock of the rescue operations and the difficulties faced by the people by getting into the flood water.
