High blood pressure linked to traffic noise: Doctors believe that in most cases a person’s own lifestyle and wrong eating habits are responsible for high blood pressure, but now a new research has made shocking revelations. According to research, the risk of high blood pressure in people whose houses are on the side of crowded roads is much higher than people living in quiet areas. The new study says that the beeping sound on the road, emergency sirens and the sound emanating from the engine of vehicles are directly related to high blood pressure.
Professor Jing Hwang, the lead researcher of this study, said, this study was also surprising to us because the noise emitted from traffic increases hypertension, which in itself is a bit strange. He said that of course people control air pollution in their homes but sound pollution increases the risk of high blood pressure. That is, the risk of many diseases related to the heart increases.
People living in quiet areas are less at risk
According to the website of the Global Diabetes Community, in this study, the health data of 2.40 lakh middle-aged people was analyzed. High blood pressure in these people was compared to people living in quiet areas. The study found that people who lived near very congested roads and were constantly exposed to the sound of vehicles on the road had significantly higher rates of hypertension than those who lived in quieter areas. It was also found in the study that people who were continuously exposed to air pollution also had a higher risk of hypertension. Professor Jing Hwang told that both road traffic noise and air pollution are present around us simultaneously. In such a situation, it is necessary to find out the hazards of road traffic noise independently instead of environmental hazards.
It is necessary to reduce public level noise
Assistant researcher Jindong Zhang said that for the first time in a study with such a large sample, it has been revealed that the noise coming from the road increases the risk of high blood pressure. He said that this study is indicating that efforts should be made at the public level to reduce the complications related to heart due to road noise and air pollution. This study has been published in JACC Advance Journal. He said that collective efforts are needed to reduce sound pollution.
