The Punjab government has been given a big blow by the High Court. The High Court has stopped the recruitment of 1158 assistant professors and has also issued a notice to the Punjab government and sought its response. The Punjab government had demanded to join the teachers who have obtained the appointment letter.

Kulwinder Singh through advocate Jagtar Singh Sidhu had filed a petition in the Punjab High Court that the Punjab government had advertised for the post of assistant professors in government colleges.

According to the advertisement, provision was made to give maximum 5 marks for each year of experience as agreement teachers. After this, the Punjab government made a change in it and made a rule that the teachers serving in the colleges run by the Punjab government will also get the benefit of experience points.

In the previous hearing, the petitioner had said that once the advertisement is issued, the recruitment condition cannot be changed. In such a case it should be dismissed. The High Court had issued an order canceling this recruitment. After this, this order was challenged before the bench. The Division Bench ordered status quo on recruitment.

Meanwhile, 600 candidates were appointed but only 135 joined. The Punjab government had submitted an application seeking permission to join the rest of the applicants. The High Court has stopped the recruitment without giving any relief to the government.
