The Punjab government is going to start a new initiative to save the lives of people injured in road accidents. Now under the Ferishte scheme, all the victims will be treated free of cost in the first 48 hours of the accident. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the victims of road accidents will be treated equally by the Punjab government. Free treatment will be ensured in nearby hospitals including private hospitals during the first 48 hours of the accident.

On Tuesday, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh was addressing a conference organized by the Lead Agency on Road Safety. He said that the person who takes the road accident victims to the hospital for treatment will be honored with a certificate and 2000 rupees. The person who brings the road accident victim to the hospital will not be questioned by the hospital authority or the police till then. Unless he himself wants to be an eyewitness of his will.

He also appealed to the people to give way to ambulances and always keep a first aid kit in their vehicles. Director General of Lead Agency R.K. Venkatratanam said the Punjab State Road Safety Council will tie up with the PGI to train trauma care doctors and para-medical staff.

ADGP Amardeep Singh Roy said that Punjab is all set to become the first state in the country to launch a special team dedicated to road safety – Road Safety Force, under which new hi-tech vehicles will be provided and separate training for police personnel and Uniform will be prepared.

The vehicle will be available in 15 minutes

The health minister said that all government and private ambulances will be linked on the lines of Ola/Uber. With this, people will get vehicles within 15 minutes at the time of accident. He said that we are also identifying government hospitals located on state highways so that people can avail world class treatment facilities at government health facilities by setting up strong critical care units.
