Amritsar: Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has raised some doubts on the announcements made by the Chief Minister of Punjab regarding the planting of paddy. He has said that the government has given the date of June 10 to the farmers in the border areas. In this, June 16 has been given to Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur and June 19 to Amritsar. This creates a suspicious situation.
Pandher has said that the rainfall of the Majha belt districts is affected by the cold winds of Jammu and Kashmir and if the paddy is harvested late, the moisture content in it will be higher than the prescribed standards, due to which it will be difficult to sell it. The government should pay attention to this.
Pandher has praised the Chief Minister’s water-saving proposal but also said that water will not be saved by delaying paddy. For this, other alternative crops like pulses, maize and MSP should be guaranteed and sold in the markets. If so, water can be saved. The Chief Minister should also pay attention to this aspect.
Pandher has said that Chief Minister Mann has talked about giving 1500 rupees to the farmers for direct sowing, but the last year’s has not been received yet. He said that these problems will be discussed by calling a meeting of the organization in the coming days.
It may be mentioned that last time too, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had fixed 4 stages for paddy cultivation, but there was a controversy even then. In the year 2022, the government had announced the sowing of paddy from June 18, but the farmers opposed it. Then Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann changed the dates and then 14th and 17th June 2 dates were fixed for paddy planting.
