Governor of the assembly session called by the Punjab government Banwari Lal Purohit (Banwari Lal Purohit) has been adjourned till November 6 on the petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the declaration of illegality and non-approval of the bills passed in the House. This petition has been filed by the government led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. On the other hand, after the government filed a petition, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has taken a U-turn from his stand. He has approved 2 out of 3 Money Bills ready for passage in the Assembly.
The two money bills of the state government which have been approved by the Governor include the GST Amendment Bill 2023. Accordingly, GST Appellate Tribunals are to be formed in the state. The second money bill relates to levy of stamp duty on mortgaged properties.
Government preparing to call another session
After Governor Banwari Lal Purohit approved 2 Money Bills, now the Bhagwant Mann government is preparing to convene the assembly session once again in the month of November.
Opinion is being sought from the AG’s office regarding the legal aspects regarding the new session. The Chief Minister has called a Cabinet meeting on November 6 to decide the date of the Assembly session. This meeting will be held at the secretariat in Chandigarh.
of June 2023 of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Special session The Governor has not yet given his assent to the four bills passed during the period. The Chief Minister has objected to this. On the other hand, during the hearing in the Supreme Court, the Governor can present his side on it.
