Bureau report : On the passing of the Gurbani Broadcasting Bill in the Vidhan Sabha, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami met the Governor of Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit and appealed not to approve the bill. While the Governor said that he will take a decision on this bill after taking legal opinion. On the other hand, Dhami said that if necessary, he will also meet the home minister of the country. The President of SGPC surrounded CM Mann while admonishing him. You say that I did not listen to Jathedar Harpreet Singh regarding the broadcast of Gurbani, so I want to ask why he ignored the words of Jathedar Sahib regarding Bandi Singhs. He said that the 1925 Act is under the Centre, when the issue of Sahajdhari was raised, even after it was passed by the Parliament, the Supreme Court gave its verdict. The SGPC president claimed that the way the state government wants to control the SGPC is through a loophole by adding Section 125 A. If this is implemented then the existence of SGPC will be in jeopardy all decisions will be from the assembly and we will be asked to implement it. He said that on one hand the Chief Minister passes the law against the Supreme Court decision for the DGP and on the other hand he is interfering in the SGPC by referring to the same court. Dhami also raised questions on AAP MLA Principal Buddram’s not speaking the name of Mahapursha recorded in Sri Guru Granth Sahib with respect and expressed strong objection to Chief Minister Mann’s comment about beard in the Vidhan Sabha. On the other hand, the former Jathedar Mr. Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh had given an admonition and said that we should have avoided such situations. While panthak sevak belligerent personalities took a hard line by misrepresenting both the government and SGPC.

The government interfered in religious affairs

Panth Sevak militant personalities have said that in the Gurdwara Act, the amended Bhagwant Maan government is interfering in the religious affairs of the Sikhs, but the talk of tenders for broadcasting of Kirtan by the Shiromani Committee is an anti-Gurmatism idea benefiting the Badal family. Panthak personalities Bhai Daljit Singh, Bhai Narayan Singh and other Panthak leaders have said that the Bhagwant Mann government’s amendment of the Punjab Gurdwara Act is playing with people’s sentiments and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s talk of tenders for broadcasting Gurbani kirtan. It is anti-Gurmati thinking that benefits the Badal family.

A purely religious channel should broadcast Gurbani instead of money

Panthak leaders said that the Gurbani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is universal and it is the prime duty of the Khalsa Panth to promote and spread it all over the world. Taking money for broadcasting it and giving the copy right of its broadcasting to a special channel is not according to Gurmat. Dhur should the transmission of the holy Gurbani be made such an arrangement that the transmission of Gurbani should be from the Sikhs’ own channel which only broadcasts Gurbani Kirtan, Katha and Gur history and Sikh history and religious events and no other corrupt content is broadcast.

Why does SGPC bring its own Dharma channel?

During the religious war front, the Khalsa panth has been demanding a high power transmitter to broadcast the kirtan of Gurbani from Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar. The central government was not accepting it due to communal thinking, but now when there is no one to set up its own TV channel. It is the duty of every Sikh to understand why Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is talking about tenders instead of setting up its own channel if there is no resistance. He also clarified that the ‘Punjab Gurdwara Act 1925’ was the decision of the British government to bind the independent Sikh entity in its imperial legal bonds. At present, the current Modi government has taken over Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee, Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee, Takht Sri Patna Sahib Board and Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Board following the lines of this act.

He appealed to the Sikhs and said that the work of Gurdwara management and service maintenance is a purely sectarian work and this work should be handled according to the Gurmat Methodology. The Khalsa Panth should unite and be freed from this shackle of the Gurdwara Act of 1925. By doing this, the sovereignty of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the institution of Sarbat Khalsa and the dignity of Gurmata will be revived.
