A hearing will be held today in the SC regarding the SYL issue

The Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) dispute has been going on for a long time between Punjab and Haryana. Today, that is, on Wednesday, an important hearing will be held in the Supreme Court regarding this issue. Several rounds of meetings were held between the Chief Ministers of the two states to resolve this matter, but the requests continued. After that, the matter reached the Supreme Court and now all eyes are on the decision of the Supreme Court in this matter. The last hearing in the Supreme Court on the SYL case was held on January 19. The hearing was adjourned due to the non-appearance of the Attorney General that day.

It should be said that the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana held a meeting on this issue on January 4, which remained pending. In this meeting, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann refused to give water. He said that the matter is in the Supreme Court. On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also argued that Haryana should get his right. This meeting was held at the office of Union Minister Gajinder Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi, which was requested.

However, the case between the two states regarding the SYL dispute is also going on in the Supreme Court. Earlier, the Supreme Court has asked the Chief Ministers of the two states to meet and find a solution to the issue. After which a meeting was held between Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal but this meeting was pending. Punjab has cleared its stand on the SYL issue. The governments of Punjab are repeatedly saying that the state does not have a single drop of water to give.

Haryana was separated from Punjab on November 1, 1966, but at that time water distribution was not done. A few years later the Center allocated 3.5 MAF water to Haryana. It was also decided to build the SYL canal to bring this water. Haryana had completed its part of the canal many years back, but Punjab has yet to construct its part. This issue has arisen many times in the Supreme Court and each time the two states were asked to resolve the dispute quickly.
