Bureau Report: Gurvinder Singh Atwal, a former MLA from Bhulath constituency under Kapurthala and former Congress minister passed away on Tuesday. He breathed his last in a hospital in Sri Nagar. Atwal was going to Sri Nagar by air to meet his relative when he started vomiting blood.

On reaching Sri Nagar, Atwal was taken to a hospital. He died there during the treatment, the family says that he had an attack. Congress leaders have expressed grief over the death of Atwal. In 2017, there was a lot of commotion in the Congress regarding Atwal’s ticket. First he was given a ticket from Nakodar but he fell out with former MLA Amarjit Singh Samra. Samra’s supporters also opposed Atwal a lot. After this, the party ignored about 10 contenders of Bhullath and gave tickets. There was a lot of commotion when Gurwinder Singh Atwal, a resident of Phillaur, got a ticket from Bhullath. People who were toiling in Bhullath for years revolted against the party. Due to which, despite the formation of the Congress government in 2017, the Congress remained at the third position in Bhullath.
