WMO Secretary-General Petri Talas said that the terrible heat that affected people in July this year is the harsh reality of the changing climate. He said that in today’s time, the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is more important than ever. Steps need to be taken to stop climate change.
The record of four years ago will be broken
According to the statistics of the Meteorological Department, July 2023 is going to break the record of four years i.e. 2019. The global average surface air temperature for the first 23 days of July 2023 was 16.95 degrees Celsius. Compared to 2019, this year July has broken the previous record. The maximum temperature throughout July in 2019 was 16.63 degrees Celsius, currently the hottest month on record.
The report said that it is certain that the average temperature of July this year will be higher than in 2019. That would make it the warmest July and warmest month on record.
