In this meeting, a report on the current situation was taken from the Administrative Secretaries of the concerned departments and the Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of all the districts. The meeting also reviewed the relief work being done by the administration on the instructions given by Bhagwant Mann to provide all kinds of help to the residents of the state. Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and public representatives posted in the field are engaged to provide relief to the people by coordinating with the administration. Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary directed the district administration that wherever people are trapped due to waterlogging, to evacuate them safely and make alternative arrangements for food, drink and accommodation for them on war footing. Protecting people’s lives is the highest priority.

Anurag Verma further said that people should be made aware by immediately identifying unsafe buildings so that any untoward incident can be avoided. He also obtained information about the necessary assistance from the district war DCs and said that NDRF will be provided to the districts as per requirement. Teams are being deployed. At present five teams are deployed in Rupnagar district, three in SAS Nagar, two in Patiala and one each in Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. Kapurthala, Tarn Tarn districts by NDRF. It was demanded to deploy one team each. Similarly, the need for boats, life jackets, water extraction machines and food packets was asked to provide relief to the people in the water-affected areas.

Also, he asked the health department to make advance arrangements for the prevention of water-borne diseases and that there should be no shortage of medicines. Asked the water supply department to provide adequate drinking water to the people. The Animal Husbandry Department was instructed to activate the field staff for combating the diseases affecting the animals. Local Government Department was asked to arrange fogging and spraying. The Rural Development and Panchayat Department said that all the staff are being continuously deployed in the villages to help the people. It was told by the electricity department that wherever the power supply has been affected, it should be repaired and restored immediately.

Earlier, the information given by the Water Resources Department said that the water level in Bhakra Dam is 1624.14 feet while the capacity is 1680 feet. The water level in Pong Dam is 1360.04 feet while the capacity is 1390 feet and the water level in Ranjit Sagar Dam is 1712.64 feet while the capacity is 1731.99 feet. The current status of water level in Sutlej, Beas, Ravi and Ghaggar rivers was made known. It was also informed that the gap found in two places in Dhusi Dam on Sutlej river has been filled.

In the meeting, the officials of the Meteorological Department informed that there will be light to moderate rain at scattered places in Punjab for the next 48 hours, while there will be light to moderate rain at some places from 48 to 72 hours. Some districts of Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive moderate to heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

The Chief Secretary further said that arrangements should be made in view of the possibility of high water in the rivers and canals in the affected districts as the water will rise further in the coming times and safety of life and property should be ensured by evacuating people from the low lying areas.
