The accused in the incident of blasphemy in Morinda died in the civil hospital of Mansa on Monday. The police gave information in this regard. The police said that the accused was kept in a jail in Mansa district, where he complained of feeling ‘restless’.
It may be mentioned that the accused named Jasveer Singh was arrested on charges of insulting Guru Granth Sahib and assaulting two Granthi Singhs in Gurdwara Sri Kotwali Sahib located in Morinda of Rupnagar district of the state.
He was sent to judicial custody on expiry of his police custody and was in Mansa jail since April 29. Mansa senior police captain Nanak Singh said that the accused died in the civil hospital. Police said he was brought to the hospital in the afternoon after he complained of feeling “uneasy”. He said that the accused died at around 9 pm. He said that the cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem.
