The news related to the telecommunication bill has come out. The government will present the Telecommunication Bill 2023 in the Lok Sabha today. The bill aims to replace the 138-year-old Indian Telegraph Act, which regulates the telecom sector. According to sources, the President has been informed about the Telecom Bill 2023. The cabinet had approved this bill in the month of August.

In this bill, the government has proposed to exempt a significant portion of internet based calling and messaging services from the purview of telecommunication regulations. The bill also proposed to curb the power of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which was opposed. Later, the officials said that necessary amendments have been made regarding this proposal.

The bill proposes to empower the government to waive entry fees, license fees, penalties, ensure competition in the market, availability or continuity of telecommunication networks and national security in the interest of users. The bill will replace the 138-year-old Indian Telegraph Act.
