Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged people to come out and vote in large numbers to vote for one Lok Sabha seat in Punjab and four assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Meghalaya. P.M. Modi tweeted, “By-elections are being held for one parliamentary seat in Punjab and assembly seats in Meghalaya, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

He appealed that voters exercise their right to vote in large numbers in the constituencies. Along with this, in another tweet, P.M. Modi said, “People of Karnataka, especially the youth and first-time voters, have appealed to vote in large numbers and make the festival of democracy happy.”

It is to be noted that by-elections are being held in Swar and Chanbe assembly constituencies of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. Voting has started in Odisha’s Jharsuguda and Meghalaya’s Sohiong assembly constituencies. Voting is also going on for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.

Counting of votes for by-elections with Karnataka will also take place on May 13. In January this year, MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary died of a heart attack while participating in party leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Joko Yatra’ between Phillaur and Goraya cities. It is to be mentioned that voting is going on only in 224 Vidhan Sabha seats of Karnataka.
