Teams of experts from Wheat Research Center assessed the damaged crop

Crop Damage in Punjab-Haryana: In Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan, about 3 percent of the wheat crop has been destroyed due to rain, hail and wind. After inspecting the wheat crop in these four states, the information of the report of the teams of Wheat Directorate, Karnal has come out. In which it is said that due to rain there is more damage in the early crop and less in the later crop. Where the crop has fallen and is submerged in water, the quality of the grain will be poor. Production will also be affected.

Dr. Gyanendra Singh, Director of Wheat Research Center Karnal, says that the current climate is suitable for wheat. A full assessment of the damage cannot be done at this time. Grains are now ripening, grain condition is also normal. But if there is heavy rain, there will be damage.

Wheat scientists say that usually 1000 grains are weighed for testing, but this varies from variety to variety. This time the wheat will start ripening a week late, as the mercury is still low. This time there is very little chance of wheat crop coming in the markets before March 31.

Rain and hail forecast in Punjab-Haryana on March 24

On March 24, rain and hail are predicted in some parts of the states. North Haryana’s Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Karnal may receive more rain. Hail may also occur at some places. Wind speed of 40 to 50 km per hour is expected. Due to which now the wheat crop can be severely damaged.

Along with this, let it be said that last year in February-March, the grain of wheat remained weak due to high heat. Due to this, the government procurement remained half of the estimate. This time too there was a possibility of damage due to high temperature in February, but on March 4, the Western Disturbance brought down the temperature. This gives the wheat enough time to ripen.

Mercury around 30 degrees

Scientists say that when the heat rises suddenly, the wheat gets less time to ripen. The seeds become weak instead of blooming. It reduces weight. Usually, the mercury rises rapidly in the last week of March. Due to this the wheat crop matured quickly. This time the mercury is around 30 degrees.

At the same time, another western disturbance is active and if it rains during this, the mercury will not rise as fast. However, the mercury must rise now to help the wheat ripen. Now the rising temperature will only benefit the crop. Grains will ripen normally. This will fill the grain completely. Weight will also increase. In such a case the production will be good.

There are about 187 lakh hectares of wheat crop in these 4 states. 98.39 lakh hectares in UP, 35.08 lakh hectares in Punjab, 29.67 lakh hectares in Rajasthan, 23.76 lakh hectares in Haryana. Six teams of scientists were sent to these four states. Regarding wheat, the eyes of the whole country are fixed on Punjab and Haryana, because both the states are the most active in the production of wheat.
