The father said that the health of the prisoners in the jail is bad, they should be treated well. He has appealed to the Jathedar Sri Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee to take strict notice of the tobacco found in the food. The father said that all the Singhs in the jail are Amritdharis, they should be allowed to cook their own food separately.
He has also asked the Punjab government and administration to allow phone and cooking. Regarding the hunger strike in the jail, father Tarsem Singh said that his daughter-in-law Kirandeep Kaur has told that Amritpal Singh and his colleagues had decided to go on a hunger strike but after that the prison authorities met the Sikh prisoners, now They do not have any information about whether this matter has been resolved or not. Dibrugarh Jail Administration, Daljit Kalsi’s lawyer, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib and SGPC have also come out with an important statement.

Statement of Jail Administration

The DG of Dibrugarh Jail has denied the news of Sikh prisoners going on hunger strike. He said that according to the jail manual of Assam, no prisoner is allowed to talk through the mobile phone from the jail. Only family is allowed to visit every week. On the other hand, the SP has said that he had received news that on June 29, when Kirandeep Kaur came to meet her husband Amritpal Singh, she wanted to sit on a strike outside the jail, but she could not do so.

Statement of Daljit Kalsi’s lawyer

Daljit Kalsi’s lawyer Simranjit Singh has claimed that according to the Punjab Jail Manual, the prisoners have gone on hunger strike due to not getting the facility of phone and tobacco mill in their food. He said that the prisoners belong to Punjab, so the jail manual will also apply to Punjab. Simranjit Singh made another allegation and said that our prisoners are being pressured to have only one lawyer in one case, whereas according to the law, one lawyer can fight as many cases as he wants. He said that there are 1 to 8 cases against each prisoner. Lawyer Simranjit Singh said that if his words are not heard, he will also attack the court.

Statement of SGPC and Jathedar Sahib

SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami termed the treatment of Sikh prisoners in Dibrugarh Jail as inhumane, he said how can Amritdhari Singhs be given food with tobacco. They demanded that the Singhs should be allowed to cook their own food. Dhami said that the health of Sikhs should be checked every month. The President of SGPC said, why doesn’t the government want the prisoners to be able to talk to their families, what are they afraid of.

On the other hand, Sri Damdama Sahib’s Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that having tobacco in the food of Amritdhari Sikhs is a very serious issue, Sikhs will never tolerate it. He said that Punjab, Central and Assam government should pay attention to this.
