Bureau report : Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal has got a big relief from Supreme Court while NIA has got a big blow. The Supreme Court of the country has clearly refused to cancel the bail petition of Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal received from the High Court by the NIA. Jaggi’s lawyer Jaspal Singh Majhpur said that senior lawyer R Basant, who is a retired judge of the Kerala High Court, appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of Jaggi Johal. In February 2016, Shiv Sena leader Amit Arora alleged that he was attacked by 2 unidentified persons. The Punjab Police had registered a case at that time. But when the investigation was done, it was revealed that Amit Arora had attacked himself to get police protection. Amit Arora was also arrested by the police in this case. But when Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal was arrested in November 2017, it was again claimed that the attack on Amit Arora was not fake and the case was handed over to the NIA.
After this, the special court of NIA rejected the bail of Jaggi Johal in the case of the attack on Amit Arora, when the Punjab Haryana High Court appealed against it, the court granted the bail on 15 March 2022. After which the NIA approached the Supreme Court against Jaggi Johal’s bail granted by the High Court. The Supreme Court initially stayed the decision of the High Court, but now on August 8, 2023, the court has dismissed the NIA’s plea canceling Jaggi Johal’s bail.
Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal has now got bail in this case, but even now he cannot come out of jail because the trial against him in many other cases is pending. Jaggi Johal’s lawyer Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that he is going to file a bail plea in other cases soon.
