Sri Lanka has been troubled by the drug trade for years. But it seems that now the government there has decided to deal with it. Under this, the Sri Lankan government is running a campaign for the last 50 days. The name of this campaign is 'Yukthia'. Which is called Niyan in Sinhala language.

Under this campaign, more than 50,000 drug traffickers and criminals have been arrested so far. Apart from this, drugs worth lakhs of rupees have also been seized. More than 49 thousand arrests are related to drugs. While more than 6 thousand people were in the list of criminals.

The operation is also being criticized

The Yukthia campaign was launched on 17 December. The deadline for ending it is 30 June. The Sri Lankan police are issuing detailed statements about this operation every day. Police have also set up a hotline to inform people about the operation.

Now, though the government is talking about eliminating the drug trade from the country through this campaign, it is still facing criticism from some parts of the world. Critics have raised questions of human rights violations.

Despite the condemnation, the operation continued

This operation continues despite the condemnation of many other rights groups like United Nations Human Rights, Local Human Rights Commission, Lawyers Group. These groups have alleged that the Sri Lankan government, which could have used public health policies to tackle the scourge of drugs, is instead running an inhumane operation. It is also alleged that since December 17, people who have been have been arrested, they include some Abused and even tortured.
