Today is the third day of the special session of the Parliament on Wednesday. Proceedings of both Houses are ongoing. The debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Bill) has started in the Lok Sabha. First, Law Minister Arjunram Meghwal briefed the House about the bill. After this, Sonia Gandhi spoke for 10 minutes on behalf of the Congress.

Sonia said, ‘For the first time the law to ensure the participation of women in local bodies was brought by my husband Rajiv Gandhi, which failed by 7 votes in the Rajya Sabha. Later PV Narasimha Rao government got it passed.

As a result, we have 15 lakh elected women leaders across the country through local organizations. Rajiv’s dream is only half fulfilled, with the passing of this bill, this dream will be fulfilled.

Congress demands that the bill be implemented immediately. The government should not shut it down till demarcation. Reservation for SC-ST and OBC women should be made in this bill by conducting caste census before this. After this, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said that this is only PM Modi’s bill, the target of which should be his name.

The bill was introduced on the first day of work in the new Parliament

The Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Bill) was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 19 September, the first day of functioning of the new Parliament. According to this bill, 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas will be implemented.

Out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, 181 seats will be reserved for women. This reservation will last for 15 years. After this the Parliament can extend its term if it wants.

The leaders of the INDIA Alliance held a meeting and formulated a strategy regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill.
The success of Chandrayaan-3 mission will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha today.
Several opposition parties including RJD, JDU, SP and BSP have demanded reservation of seats for OBC women.
BJP leader Uma Bharti and Union Minister Anupriya Patel have also demanded quotas for OBC women.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh has called this bill a ‘stupid women’ bill. He said that it should be implemented before 2024.
Congress MPs Pramod Tiwari and P Chidambaram have described this bill as a statement by the central government.
