SDO of Mining Department and his driver take bribe of Rs 40,000 under Vigilance

Punjab Vigilance Bureau: Punjab Vigilance Bureau during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state today SDO of Mining Department posted at Hoshiarpur. Sarabjit and his driver Mani Ram have been arrested red-handed by taking a bribe of Rs 40,000.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the said accused have been arrested on the complaint of Rajinder Singh, resident of village Pur Heeran, district Hoshiarpur. He said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and told that he works to bring and transport trolleys full of soil for filling plots/under-construction houses.

The complainant further alleged that the said SDO and his driver demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 per month from him to keep his operations running smoothly.

The spokesperson further said that after the preliminary investigation of the complaint, the unit of the Vigilance Bureau of Jalandhar range laid a trap and arrested the two accused on the spot by accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. The vigilance team also recovered the bribe money on the spot.

In this regard, a case has been registered against the said two accused at Jalandhar police station of the Vigilance Bureau under Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation in this regard is going on.
