Swine flu has once again struck in Punjab. In the first 2 months of the year-2023, an increase in the death rate has been recorded again in cases of swine flu. From January 1 to March 2 this year, the data of the Punjab Health Department revealed that a total of 29 cases of swine flu were reported. Out of these, 4 infected patients are suspected to have died.
This year, 11 patients have been reported in Ludhiana, 2 each in Moga, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Sangrur and 1 each in Mohali, Ropar, Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka and Fatehgarh Sahib. In the year 2022, 203 patients of this disease were reported, out of which 42 patients died. Between January-2018 and March 2, 2023, about 891 people fell victim to swine flu, out of which 95 patients died and the death rate remained at 10.66 percent.

According to doctors, swine flu is a serious disease and if it is not treated on time, it can cause pneumonia and severe respiratory distress. The elderly, newborns and pregnant women are more prone to this disease. Its symptoms are similar to those of the common flu, such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. There is no vaccine available to protect against swine flu.
