Guava Compensation Scam: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested retired Patwari Surinderpal Singh, who was posted at the office of Land Acquisition Collector (LAC) Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GAMADA) in connection with the multi-crore scam involving compensation of guava plantations. Giving information in this regard, the official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that Surinderpal Singh had played an important role in giving wrong information to give the benefits of compensation to the wrong beneficiaries.

He said that the horticulture department has indicated the market price of guava saplings to LAC for distribution of compensation. Gamada was sent the assessment report but according to the revenue records, the names of some land owners and the portion of the land were not mentioned correctly in the report. Instead of raising an objection, the accused Patwari recommended the release of compensation as per this report of the Horticulture Department.

The spokesperson said that on the basis of the recommendation of the said Patwari, the Naib-Tehsildar referred the case to the then LAC. Forwarded to, from whom the payments were released. Surinderpal Singh has been named as an accused in this case and has been arrested today from Sri Muktsar Sahib.
