Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday lashed out at Indian cricket team pacer Mohammad Shami for targeting him on social media and commenting on him, saying “these people are full of hatred.”

He tweeted, “Mohammed Shami, we are with you. These people are full of hatred because no one loves them. Forgive them. ‘ Earlier, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that the game should be left as a game and there should be no politics in it.

On the other hand, former and current Indian players, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, have also backed Shami, who was targeted on social media after the country’s cricket team’s first defeat against Pakistan in World Cup history. India lost their first match of the Twenty20 World Cup by 10 wickets on Sunday. Meanwhile, Shami proved to be India’s most expensive bowler, scoring 43 runs in 3.5 overs.
