Indian wrestler Deepak Poonia’s dream of winning a bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics has been shattered. In the 87 kg freestyle wrestling match, the wrestler from San Marino defeated Deepak 2-4.
From the start, Deepak Poonia was ahead of the San Marino wrestler, but in the last seconds, the opposing wrestler took a 3-2 lead over Deepak Poonia. India finally took a review after which the opposing wrestler got an extra point after the defeat. The San Marino wrestler won the match 4-2.
Earlier in the day, however, India won another medal. India has won one medal in wrestling. Ravi Kumar Dahiya has bagged the silver medal. He was defeated by Russian wrestler Javur Yugyuyev in the final and captured the gold. Russia’s Javur Yugyuyev defeated Ravi 7-4. Ravi is the second Indian wrestler to win silver in the Olympics. Earlier, Sushil Kumar had reached the final and won a silver medal in the 2012 Olympics. Earlier, India’s men’s hockey team made history. They beat Germany 5-4 in the bronze medal match.
