Chandigarh: The party’s state unit president Ashwini Sharma has clarified that there is no possibility of a re-alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal and the party will fight all the elections in Punjab on its own. He said that the tribute paid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership to Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal should not be linked with politics.

“The BJP will fight all the elections on its own and win with a huge majority and (it) will not at any cost tie up with the Akali Dal,” Ashwini Sharma said in her statement. He said that the article written by the Prime Minister and BJP leadership and Prime Minister Modi, who came to Punjab to pay homage to the late former Chief Minister Badal, should not be associated with politics. “It was nothing but a tribute to former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,” Sharma said in the statement.

Prime Minister Modi reached the Shiromani Akali Dal office in Chandigarh to express his grief with the Badal family after the demise of the former five-time chief minister. BJP president JP Nadda, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, senior leader Tarun Chugh and other party leaders had come to Mr Badal’s village Muktsar on Thursday to pay homage.
