Punjab became the 5th state in the country to deliver drinking water through pipes to every house in the villages

Punjab has become the fifth state in the country to have 100 percent piped drinking water to every village household. This information was given by Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa. He said that the Punjab government has made its name bright at the national level by providing the most important clean water facility for living.

Gimpa said that it is a matter of pride for the Punjab government that it has achieved the target of providing tap/piped drinking water to every rural household under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’. ‘. The total number of rural households in Punjab is 34.26 lakh.

He said that many other such achievements of the first year of the Bhagwant Mann-led government would be taken to greater heights in the next four years.

The state has achieved the target of providing piped drinking water to over 34 lakh rural households, while the national target is to be achieved by 2024.

The Minister of Water Supply and Sanitation has congratulated all the officials, residents and people’s representatives who are working to achieve this goal. Gimpa said that in the first year of the Mann government, the Chief Minister has started providing house-to-house facilities to the villagers, fulfilling the promise of running the government in the villages as soon as he assumed office.

He also said that the achievements of just 11 months will be further boosted in the next 4 years and all possible efforts will be made to equip the villages of Punjab with all kinds of facilities.

Principal Secretary of Water Supply and Sanitation Department D.K. Tiwari and HOD Muhammad Ishfaq said that every officer and employee of the department is working tirelessly 24X7 to provide clean and potable water and sanitation facilities to the residents of the villages. He said that this achievement will motivate every officer and employee of WSS department to work harder.

It may be mentioned that Punjab has bagged the second position in the North Zone for its performance in the ‘Swachh Survey Rural 2022’ and has been awarded a prize of Rs 1 crore by the Government of India. The state also won awards for wall painting competitions on ODF Plus- Biodegradable Waste Management (Rank 1), Plastic Waste Management (Rank 3) and Gray Water Management (Rank 3).
