Proceedings against illegal mining: Meet Hare

Following the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to provide sufficient sand to the residents of the state at reasonable prices and to take strict action against illegal mining, continuous action is being taken by the mining department. The mining department has seized a poklane machine and four tippers in a raid near the Swan river in Rupnagar district.

Giving information here today, Mining Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare said that this operation was conducted by the Mining Department on the right side of the river Sawan on a Poklen machine and five tippers doing illegal mining. A tipper driver fled with the tipper whose number was noted and operations have been intensified to nab him while a poklane machine and four tippers have been seized.

Meet Hare said that the state government is against any kind of mafia and will not tolerate illegal activities at any cost. He said that in order to provide the required sand to the people at reasonable prices, the mining department is selling sand from 32 public quarries at the rate of Rs. 5.50 per square feet.

So far, the common people have bought 5.05 lakh metric tonnes of cheap sand, which has also provided employment to the workers. Along with this, there is a target to increase the number of public pits to 50 in the near future. Similarly, tendering of commercial quarries is also going on from where sand will be available at Rs 5.50 per square feet.
