Bureau report : Technology has made our life easy but fraudsters have created trouble in its use. Fraud while withdrawing money from ATMs has turned convenience into a hassle for people. That is why the police has advised the ATM users to be careful while using the ATM in the afternoon and at night. According to the police, the gang members are mostly active at this time. Their targets are the elderly, women and children. They enter the ATM with deception and then cleverly find out the password first and then empty the account by changing the card. A similar case happened in Punjab a few days ago.
‘Account Free with QUICK FIX’
As soon as a person reached to withdraw money from the ATM, the person inside the ATM was pointed out by the gang member, ‘QUICK FIX’ was applied at the place where the ATM card goes in, as soon as the person inserted the card. That train was not coming. After a while, the third person of the gang enters the ATM and asks the victim about the trouble, when he informs him about the card being stuck in the ATM, the gang advises him to re-enter the password of the ATM. The member knows the password. And then gives the call center number, the call center number the victim calls is that of another gang member, he says take the card from the bank, as soon as the victim leaves the card Gang members withdraw money. This is just one way of robbing, there are many ways through which ATM operators are targeted. Apart from this, the police has warned that the customer care number of the bank should not be taken from Google.
According to the police, if you take the bank’s call center number from Google, you will also get fake numbers where you can get trapped by giving your card information, so you should go to the bank’s website and get the call center number. Indeed, some fraudsters have opened fake call centers that look for their victims.
110 cases solved
According to the State Crime Branch of Haryana, the Anti-ATM Fraud Cell has solved 110 cases within 10 months. 81 accused involved in the fraud have been arrested, an amount of 17 lakh rupees has been recovered from them. Last year in August 2022, there was an increase in the cases of ATM fraud, after which the State Crime Branch Haryana formed an ATM Fraud Investigation Cell in 22 districts. This cell investigates those cases which are declared untraceable. 131 untrail cases from different districts were handed over to the cell, out of which 110 have been resolved.
