President of the World Bank reached the Center of Excellence in Phagwara

World Bank President: Less than two months after Punjab Employment, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora inaugurated the ‘Centre of Excellence’ (COE) at Phagwara, around 140 candidates, including 32 girls, are receiving training for various job roles at the centre.

World Bank President Ajay Banga reviewed the functioning of this center with the officials of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). It is to be noted that the name of Punjab was also included in the four states selected to show the performance of the Center of Excellence before the President of the World Bank. The remaining three states selected include Karnataka, Odisha and Maharashtra.

The Center of Excellence was established under the World Bank funded ‘Sankalp’ scheme to impart skill training to the youth of Punjab. The Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) entered into an agreement with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) on February 9, 2023 to set up a Center of Excellence at Phagwara and the center was inaugurated on May 26.

During the meeting, Ajay Banga also interacted with the women candidates undergoing training at the Center of Excellence. This center was established as per the thinking of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann with the aim of making the youth of Punjab skilled and employable.

It is worth mentioning that COE is successfully functioning, with a total of 140 candidates including 32 girls. These candidates are undergoing training for automotive machine operator, fitter electrical and electronic assembly among other jobs. A total of 2000 candidates will be trained at the Center of Excellence.

The Center of Excellence focuses on women empowerment and aims to provide skill training to women candidates in non-traditional fields.
