Preparations for general elections of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee have started

After receiving the green signal from the Union Home Ministry, preparations for the general elections of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee have started. Gurdwara Commission Chief Commissioner Justice S.S. Saravan (retired) has issued a letter to the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary and Deputy Commissioner of all the districts of Punjab asking them to start preparing the voter lists for the formation of the new board of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

The general election for the post of the chairman of the committee will be held after a delay of nearly seven years. First, these elections were to be held in the year 2011 and then in the year 2016. It is worth mentioning that the Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab had recommended the central government to hold the general elections of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in the month of November last year.

For this, the government has appointed SGPC of Akali Dal Amritsar. The demand for holding elections was made the basis. SGPC The election for the post of president was also held in the month of November last year.
