Pakistan Election 2024: General elections are held in Pakistan today i.e. Thursday. Voting will begin at 8 am (8.30 am IST). Voting will end at 5:30 PM. 5121 candidates are trying their luck in this election. Of these, 4,806 are male, 312 female and two transgender candidates. 12.85 crore voters will elect a new government in Pakistan, which is struggling with economic crisis. For this there is a fierce competition between three parties PTI, PMN-L and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

9,07,675 polling stations have been set up for the general elections. Tight security arrangements have been made for the general elections in Pakistan. Six and a half lakh security personnel have been deployed. In this election, Nawaz Sharif will be eyeing to become the Prime Minister for a record fourth time. Along with this, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari from PPP is the face of the Prime Ministership. In such a situation, the question arises whether the jailed Imran Khan will be able to defeat Nawaz Sharif?

How many seats will be voted on?

Let us tell you that there are a total of 336 seats in the Pakistan National Assembly, out of which voting takes place in only 266 seats. The majority figure is 169. 60 seats are reserved for women and 10 seats for non-Muslims. Punjab province has the highest number of seats with 141, followed by Sindh with 61, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 45, Balochistan with 16 and Islamabad with three.

How many polling stations are there?

More than 12.85 crore registered voters will vote in this election. For this, the Election Commission of Pakistan has established 9,07,675 polling stations across the country. Along with this, 44,000 polling stations are normal while 29,985 have been declared sensitive and 16,766 ultra sensitive.

Imran Khan is contesting elections from jail

Cricketer-turned-politician PTI chief and former Prime Minister of the country Imran Khan is currently in jail. He is contesting elections from jail. After April 2022, they are continuously campaigning against the army in Pakistan. He has been in jail continuously since September last year. Many cases are registered against Imran Khan. On the other side is Nawaz Sharif who has been the prime minister of Pakistan three times. Many cases have been registered against them. The previous government was headed by his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif.
