Now the organs of people above 65 years of age can also be taken for kidney, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas and small intestine transplant in the country. Till now people above 65 years of age were prohibited from taking organs. Along with this, the Modi government has also abolished the compulsion of Domicile Certificate by adopting one nation one policy. The central government has also abolished the registration fee charged by the states for organ transplant.
According to the Union Health Ministry, this change will give new life to lakhs of people in the country who have been waiting for organ transplant for years. Along with this, the original residence certificate will no longer be required for organ transplant. Information about this change in the organ transplant law has been given to all the states and union territories. Now the needy person can go to any state or union territory of the country and register to get the organ.

Significantly, till now people waiting for organ transplant could register for taking organ in their own state. Now the central government has also abolished the registration fees charged by the states. In different states of the country, the registration fee for taking organ was fixed at Rs 5 to 10 thousand.

According to the Ministry of Health, from 2013 to 2022, there has been a three-fold increase in ginger transplants in the country. Where there were 4 thousand 990 organ transplants in the country in the year 2013, it has increased to 15 thousand 561 in 2022. In recent times, there has been a rapid increase in the transplantation of lungs and heart.

The number of organ donations has increased in the country in the last few years. Data from Organ India shows that organ donation is getting more acceptance in India but transplants are also increasing faster than donations. In the year 2014, 6916 transplants were done in India, while by 2021 it had increased to 12,259.

Whereas the number of transplants is only 6000. Similarly, according to an estimate, about 2 lakh patients die every year in India due to liver failure or liver cancer. Every year around 25,000 to 30,000 liver transplants are needed in India, but only 1500 are done. Similarly 50,000 people suffer from heart disease every year but the number of heart transplants every year is only 10 to 15.
