On the occasion of New Year celebrations, Chandigarh Police issued a traffic advisory

New Year will be celebrated at different places in Chandigarh on the evening of 31.12.2023. To ensure safe and peaceful celebrations and keeping in mind the excitement of the general public, Chandigarh Police has issued a traffic advisory for the New Year celebrations.

Chandigarh Police has appealed to all the citizens to cooperate with the police officers on duty. Law and order and traffic order have been maintained and Chandigarh Traffic Police will conduct a special campaign against traffic violators in the city on the eve of New Year-2024 and strict legal action will be taken against the violators and they will be fined. Driving licenses may be suspended or revoked.

The advisory said that persons who consume alcohol in public places, create disorder on public roads and public places, cause noise pollution and mischief will be dealt with strictly according to the law. According to the police, special checking will also be done for those driving under the influence of alcohol at different places and random checking will be done. Chandigarh Police will control the traffic and help the general public in maintaining law and order.

The police have designated some road sections as 'restricted vehicle zones' from 10 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1 to ensure smooth flow of traffic. The 'Restricted Vehicular Zone' includes Sector 7, Sector 8, Sector 9, Sector 10 (small roundabout till Sector 10 market end), Sector 17 and Sector 22 inner market road.

It also includes the roads in front of the Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10, from Aroma Light Point to a small roundabout near the dispensary, to Allante Mall. Police advised the residents of these surrounding areas/roads to carry an identity proof (mentioning residential address) to access these roads during the restriction period so that they do not face any inconvenience.

Additionally, traffic around Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase 1 will be regulated in a one-way system. General public is also advised to park their vehicles only in designated parking spaces and not to park their vehicles on footpaths/cycle tracks.
