Vikramjit Singh Sahni, Member of Parliament from Punjab, while reacting to India’s political dispute with Canada, said that he always believes that dialogue is the only solution to every diplomatic problem. Sawhney has expressed concern over the accusations leveled against India by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Canadian Sikhs are largely pro-India. Don’t be humiliated for the actions of a handful of extremists. Sawhney, who is also the international president of Vishwa Punjabi Organization, said that he is in touch with several Canadian parliamentarians for a peaceful resolution of the issue.

Extremists exist in every religion and we should never make hasty assumptions about a community because of a handful of people, Sahni said. Sikhs need not give any proof of their patriotism and commitment to India. History is a witness of the greatest sacrifices and unparalleled contribution of the Sikh community for the freedom struggle and nation building. Of the 123 Indians executed by the British, 93 were Sikhs, while 2,417 of the 2,626 freedom fighters who received life imprisonment were Sikhs.
