Medical officer and hospital ward attendant arrested by Vigilance Bureau for accepting bribe of Rs 10,000

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has made two important arrests on Friday as part of the anti-corruption drive in the state, during which Dr. Vikramjit Jindal, Medical Officer of the Civil Hospital, Kotakpura District, Faridkot, and Gurmail Singh, the Ward Attendant of the same hospital, were arrested red-handed for taking a bribe of Rs. 10,000. is

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the state vigilance bureau said that both the accused have been arrested on the complaint of Harpreet Singh, a resident of village Bandar Jatana near Kotakpura.

According to the complaint, Harpreet Singh and his wife were admitted to the Civil Hospital Kotakpura after sustaining injuries during an altercation with another person. During his treatment Dr. Vikramjit Jindal demanded Rs 5,000 to issue a medico-legal report (MLR) and provide them with better medical care.

The next day, when the doctor came to the ward to examine the complainant, he told him that he had a broken bone in his hand. Dr Vikramjit Jindal demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to include this injury in the MLR, which was later settled for Rs 10,000.

After this, Ward Attendant Gurmail Singh asked the complainant to meet Dr. Vikramjit Jindal. During this meeting, the complainant recorded the entire conversation regarding the payment of bribe. On the basis of this evidence, the vigilance team further proceeded with the case.

The spokesperson further said that after recording the statement of the complainant, the vigilance laid a trap as a result of which Dr. Vikramjit Jindal and Ward Attendant Gurmail Singh were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. Further investigation of this matter is ongoing.
