Purchase of Wheat in Mandis: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Lal Chand Kataruchak has today ordered to stop the purchase of wheat in mandis across the state from May 25. This announcement was made after a careful inspection of the successful completion of procurement activities in the state’s mandis.

Sharing these details, he said that more than 125.57 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the mandis of the state during the current haari season which started from April 1. Of this, about 121.07 lakh metric tons have been procured by government procurement agencies while about 4.5 lakh metric tons have been purchased by private traders. Along with this, Rs 24,693 crore as Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been paid directly to 8,09,149 farmers of the state in their bank accounts.

Explaining about the functioning of mandis, Kataruchak said that the state government had made 2780 mandis functional in the state during the current rubber season, but a few days ago, 2628 mandis were opened in a planned manner after the decrease in the arrival of wheat in some parts of the state since May 10. was closed He said that at present wheat is being purchased in 152 main market yards of all the districts of the state.

The minister further said that though the deadline for stopping the procurement was earlier set to May 31, but in view of the reports of reduction in wheat arrival in recent days and successful completion of procurement operations across the state, all the mandis have been extended till May 25. The decision to close has been taken. He also asked the farmers to bring the entire crop to the markets by May 25.
