Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) have been submitted by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) for laying metro line in Chandigarh. This report was presented on Friday in a meeting chaired by Dharmapal, advisor to Chandigarh Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit.

Apart from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana government officials were also present in it. During the meeting, the metro project to be built in Chandigarh was discussed in detail. Now orders have been given to prepare the final report by December 2023.

Plan to cover maximum areas

Efforts are being made to cover maximum area in the metro lines to be built in three cities Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the total length of this line to be laid in the first phase is 79.5 km.

Four lines will be created

According to the DPR, the first line will be laid from New Chandigarh to Panchkula. The second line will be laid from Rock Garden to Sector 17 Bus Stand to Zirakpur Bus Stand, the third line to Mohali International Airport and the fourth line from Anaj Mandi Chowk to Transport Light Sector 26.

The central government will give 60 percent of the entire cost

The total cost of the metro line to be laid in Chandigarh is said to be around 13 thousand crore rupees. 60 percent of this will be given by the central government, while 40 percent will be given by Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab. Money has been given by Haryana and Punjab for preparation of DPR.
