Maharashtra | Maharashtra: In the case of journalist’s death, the police arrested the accused under the section of murder

MumbaiPolice on Wednesday registered a murder case against a man arrested for allegedly running over a journalist to death in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. An officer gave this information.

Several media organizations had demanded an inquiry into the death of journalist Shashikant Warishe, claiming that Warishe had reported against local land dealer Pandharinath Amberkar. Pandharinath Amberkar is said to be a supporter of the proposed Ratnagiri refinery project.

The organizations claimed that Amberkar crushed the journalist’s bike under his car at a petrol pump in Ratnagiri district on Monday. Warishe succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Kolhapur on Tuesday.

The official said that the accused (42) was arrested under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have added section 302 (murder) in the FIR against Amberkar. He was sent to police custody in Rajapur till February 13. Police is investigating to find out the exact reason behind the murder. (agency)
