Let the governments do diplomacy, but… Canadian High Commissioner's big statement on relations with India

Relations between India and Canada have been strained for the past few months and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been blamed for this. The Canadian PM named India in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijhar, after which the relationship between the two countries soured. Meanwhile, Canada's High Commissioner in India Cameron McKay has made a big statement. He said that the strategic interests of India and Canada are in the right direction. Let the governments do what they are doing, let the governments do the diplomacy, but everyone knows that in the long run Canada's strategic interests and India's strategic interests are aligned.

Cameron Mackey made this statement during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit session. He said that there has been some tension between our two countries in the past months. It is no secret, but I am encouraged by the leadership and vision of the business community here and abroad to advance the trade and investment relationship that is in the interest of both our countries.

What did Cameron Mackie say?

He said that trade relations will help in job creation, technology sharing and prosperity of both the countries. My advice to my government and the Indian government and the business community on both sides is to let the governments do what the governments are doing, let the governments do the diplomacy, but everyone knows that in the long run Canada's Strategic interests and India's strategic interests are aligned.

He said that in the meantime let's establish relations at the business level. We must work together to make our trade and countries friendly again. Mackay said the diplomatic dispute has not affected the trade relations between the two countries. He said, more than 100 Indian companies have invested in Canada and more than 600 Canadian companies are present in India.

Relations between the two countries soured last year after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of a suspected role in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijhar in his country. India had described this allegation as absurd.
