About 40 people were on board the bus

Most of the passengers are foreigners
The Civil Protection Agency said, ‘Most of the passengers are foreigners and come from countries such as India, the Dominican Republic and the African continent, some of whom were going to Tijuana to enter the US.

Rescue workers are still trying to get people out of the bus, the agency said. It said that the death toll is preliminary. Reuters reported that the bus got stuck in a 50-meter deep gorge.

The bus driver has been detained
The driver of the bus has been detained on suspicion of speeding. The agency said it is suspected that speeding caused the driver to lose control and push the bus down an embankment near Tepic, the state capital.

Road accidents are common in Mexico
