Anya Vig is young and full of self-confidence. They are always full of enthusiasm to move forward. She wants to create a beautiful world for women, where no woman has to struggle to raise her voice. Anya gives the credit of reaching here to her experiences and education. Growing up at the hands of a single mother and the societal stereotypes and prejudices surrounding her also inspired her to be strong. She is just 23 years old and is the co-founder of ‘Her Haq’ organization. The leadership of this institution is in the hands of the youth and it is a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to promote gender equality and women empowerment (Aanya wig struggle for gender equality).

multitask

As a social entrepreneur, Anya is working in three areas: menstrual hygiene management, financial literacy and legal literacy. Apart from all these, she is also associated with The Udaiti Foundation. He is on the Young People’s Action Team for UNICEF and is also a SUSI Scholar with the US Department of State. He has recently completed PG Diploma in International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law and Refugee Law.

The world should see women as equals

Anya Vig, an alumnus of Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram College for Women, grew up aspiring to be in different professions—lawyer, journalist, police officer. All these areas affect the change in the society. Later she realized that she could make a difference even without being involved in these fields.

Anya says, ‘ I was born and brought up by a single mother. He is a teacher by profession. I lost my father when I was very young. I, my sister and my mother were at home. Women did everything for me. Mother went to work, led the household, filed taxes, paid the bills. Means everyone used to do the same thing. Growing up, I realized that the world doesn’t see women the way they should. Responsibilities outside the home are in the hands of men. So I decided that I have to make sure that the world sees women the way I do. This is how ‘Her Haq’ started.

Menstrual hygiene lessons for both boys and girls

All the places Anya Vig currently works are the product of either her personal experiences or the experiences of the women around her. She realized that there is a lack of education and sensitization towards menstrual hygiene. That’s why awareness among people is necessary. This is where her menstrual hygiene management started.

She believes that poverty and lack of access to period products alone do not lead to a lack of period awareness. Rather, the education system is also responsible for this. Teachers should not send boys out of the room when talking about menstruation during reproductive health class. They should not only tell girls but also boys about the use of pads. Women should also be told about issues like PCOS and endometriosis.

women control their earnings

When it comes to financial literacy, Anya wants women to have more control over their earnings and future planning. She says, ‘When I was 18, I started earning. I realized that I cannot manage my finances. No one told me how to pay taxes or what to invest in, what is a fixed deposit or how to plan for the future. Most of the women depend on the men of the house to do all these work.

As far as legal literacy is concerned, she stresses on the need for women to know their rights and fight for it if needed.

Youth have to come forward to bring change in the society.

Age has never been a barrier for Anya when it comes to pursuing her dream of transformation. She grew up in an environment where education was given priority. Being surrounded by intellectually rich people in college also had a good effect on him.

She says, “Age has never been a factor for me. I realized that because of the work I do, I must have got an invitation or a place on some platforms. My thinking changed from ‘Oh wow, I’m getting to speak on platforms, I’m a young person…’ to realizing it’s a symbolic representation. Several youth-led organizations have come up, which are doing good work. But this number and acceptance is very less to bring change in the society.

The works of the youth cannot be dismissed

This is because we do not give much importance to the work done by youth organisations. It’s like a roadblock. A TEDx speaker and LinkedIn Top Voice for Social Impact, Anya says her endeavors can’t be simply dismissed as a “side hobby”. Indeed our work goes against the set pattern of turning to the social sector once we are financially secure in the future.

Anya talks about women’s laws and rights on social sites.

Anya says, “If people see the social sector as a non-earning sector, so does the funding cycle. People don’t want to fund young people who are making a difference. It becomes difficult for the youth to speak up and make their voices heard. This is not the only prejudice he has faced.

Change will come by changing the mindset of the people.

Recalling her childhood days, Anya says, ‘When I was in school, I was an overperformer. I was good at studies. Was also active in extracurricular and public speaking. But good looks and social circle were more measured there than merit.”

Anya has been the kind of girl who dyed her hair, wore short skirts or kept a phone at a young age. Like most girls, she too was caught in the trap of stereotypes. But his work completely changed him. She says emphatically, ‘People are now standing in front of me.don’t even make sexist jokes

change is necessary

A lot of people ask me, ‘What benefits can come from advocating on social media?’ But I guess if a post I make stops someone from making a sexist comment the next time, that’s change for me.

Despite her young age, Anya has many achievements to her credit.

Change cannot be measured just by the number of people I reach out to. If a person thinks twice before doing or saying something on my advice, then This will also be called change in society!

women can do all the work

Anya’s message to women across age groups is, ‘Don’t let the world tell you what you can and can’t do. Try to be the change you want to see.
