According to Dr. Jyoti Kapoor, however, the exact reason for suffering from bipolar disorder cannot be explained. Chemical imbalance is believed to be the root cause of disordered brain activity. 80-90% of people have some family member who has depression or has this disorder. Stress, irregular sleep patterns, drugs and alcoholโ€”all these factors can cause mood swings in people who are already vulnerable.
