Ahead of the Jalandhar by-election, the Shiromani Akali Dal has suffered a major setback. In fact, former Jalandhar cantonment MLA and Akali leader Jagbir Singh Brar has joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Jagbir Singh Brar’s joining AAP can benefit the party in the Jalandhar by-election. Jagbir Singh Brar has been inducted into the party by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Let us tell you that Jagbir Singh Brar has been considered to have a lot of influence in Jalandhar. Jagbir Singh Brar has left three parties so far. Apart from Akali Dal, they include PPP and Congress party. In the year 2021, he said goodbye to the Congress and joined the Akali Dal. Akali Dal President and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia themselves went to Jalandhar to join Jagbir Brar in the party.

Brar had won and reached the Vidhan Sabha for the first time in 2007. Brar was defeated by the then Akali leader Pargat Singh from the Jalandhar cantonment seat in the 2012 Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections by 6797 votes. In the year 2017, Pargat Singh won on the Congress ticket. In the 2022 assembly elections, Jagbir Brar contested on the ticket of Akali Dal.
